2 students drown in Karotoa river
Two students drowned in the Karotoa river in separates incidents of drowning in Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased are Abu Sufian Saad, 20, son of Istiaq Hossain of Joypurpara of the town and a student of Sylhet Polytechnic Institute, and Sohel Rana, 18, son of Kuddus Pramanik of Shakharia village in Sadar upazila, also an intermediate student at Bogura Government Azizul Haque College, police said.
Quitting the family members, Inspector (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station Rezaul Karim said Saad went to take a bath in the Karotoa river around 1:00pm and drowned.
Being informed, fire fighters went to the spot and rescued the victim after one and a half hours of hectic search and sent him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, Sohel went missing while he was fishing amid strong current in the river around 2:00pm and drowned.
After filing separate unnatural death (UD) cases with the police station, deceased’s bodies were handed over to their respective family members, Inspector Rezaul said.
