2 Rohingya women held in Chuadanga
Police detained two Rohingya women from Dugdugi Bazar area of Chuadanga’s Damurhuda upazila on Saturday.
The detainees are Jubaira Khatun, 25, daughter of Amir Hossain, a middleman (chief) of Kutupalong (camp-3), and Anwara Khatun, 18, daughter of Ismail Hussain of Balukhali (camp-29) in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhia upazila.
The law enforcers also held two youths, travelling on the same vehicle, suspecting their involvement in trafficking the two girls to neighbouring India.
After interrogation, the two youths -- Zakir Hossain, 32, of Barisal, and Nafiz Sadiq, 28, of Narayanganj -- were released after police came to know that the duo had no connection with the detained Rohingya women.
Officer in Charge (OC Investigation) of Damurhuda Model Police Station Jahangir Kabir said, acting on a tip-off, they intercepted a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Dugdugi Bazar area around 4:00pm and detained its four passengers including the two Rohingyas.
During interrogation, the two girls confessed that they escaped from separate Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar and were going to India without valid documents, the OC said, adding that the arrestees were handed over to Ukhia Police Station yesterday.
