13 sued on charge of instigation
Ten months after the suicide of farmer Ranjit Chandra Roy, his son Subrata Kumar Roy filed a case on Monday against 13 people on charge of instigating the suicide.
After accepting the case, Senior Judicial Magistrate Afas Uddin sent it to Kaliganj Police Station in the district the same day.
Ranjit, 44, was son of late Sharat Chandra Roy of Nithok village under Chalbala union in Kaliganj.
The accused are Jaynal Abedin, 35, Nazrul Islam, 35, Mizanur Rahman, 40, Fazul Miah, 45, Maynal Haque, 35, Babu Miah, 35, Nuru Miah, 30, Abdul Gafur, 40, Abdul Quddus, 40, Younus Ali, 32, Rubiya Khatun, 33, Marzina Begum, 27, of Nithok village in Kaliganj and Abdul Quddus, 36, of Chandanpat under Aditmari upazila of the district.
“The accused called my father to Babu Miah's house on the night of December 8 last year, saying that he would be paid back Tk 10 lakh that he had lent a year earlier,” said the plaintiff.
“Instead of paying back the money, they beat my father and took his signature on three blank non-judicial stamps. He was found hanging from a tree in Babu's courtyard the next morning.
“My father gave the money to eight of the 13 accused for running their cattle business but he did not maintain any valid document,” he added.
Kaliganj Police Station OC Maqbul Hossain said, “After recovery of Ranjit's body, autopsy report at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital said it was suicide. Police will conduct further investigation and take legal action following the court order.”
