12-year-old dies in isolation ward at Jashore hospital
A twelve-year-old, who was being treated at the isolation ward of Jashore General Hospital, died today.
Doctors found the patient dead when they went for their morning rounds, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting Arif Ahmed, residential medical officer (RMO) at the hospital.
The child was rushed to the emergency department of the hospital yesterday evening with complaints of fever and cough, the doctor added. She was kept in institutional quarantine.
Dhaka's Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) was requested to collect the girl's samples for tests but they said her symptoms were not similar to that of coronavirus -- ruling out the need for tests, Sheikh Abu Shaheen, civil surgeon of Jashore, said.
The body will be handed over to family members for burial. But the civil surgeon said they could not find the family at the hospital following the death.
According to the hospital registrar, the girl hailed from Enayetpur village in Jashore's Sadar upazila.
Apart from this, local authorities today locked down five houses in Chowgachha upazila of the district after a teenager from the upazila was admitted to the hospital with symptoms associated with coronavirus infection.
Samples have been collected of the patient and sent to IEDCR for testing.
