Infant’s body separated: Probe committee formed in Cumilla
The civil surgeon of Cumilla today formed a high-powered five-member probe committee to investigate the incident of separating a newborn’s body during delivery.
The probe-committee will submit the report on their findings in seven days, our Cumilla correspondent reports quoting Dr Mozibur Rahman, civil surgeon of Cumilla.
Dr Mohammad Nazrul Islam, health and family planning official of Titas upazila in Cumilla, will be leading the probe committee, according to a release of Cumilla civil surgeon office.
The incident occurred on Saturday at Debidwer Upazila Health Complex when “Nurse Achia , Jharna and a maid Jesmin tried to conduct a normal delivery without the presence of doctors and ended up splitting the head of the newborn baby,” said Md Yusuf, brother of patient Fatema Begum.
A caesarian section had to be performed on Fatema to remove the deceased infant at Comilla Medical College Hospital the next day, her brother told the correspondent.
Fatema is in critical condition following the incident.
