MP Rana, brothers killed my husband
The wife of slain Awami League leader Faruk Ahmed during the cross-examination told the court yesterday that Awami League (AL) lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana and his brothers had killed her husband.
Nahar, the first prosecution witness in Faruk Ahmed murder case, was cross-examined by the defence lawyers for the fourth time yesterday.
Judge Abul Mansur Miah of the First Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court fixed May 9 for the next hearing after cross-examination of Nahar, said district Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Manirul Islam.
The prime accused Rana was in the dock, said the APP.
Nahar told the court that Rana contested the by-election to the Tangail-3 (Ghatail) constituency in 2012 as a rebel candidate as he failed to get the nomination from AL.
She said police arrested several workers of Rana with arms a few days before the election. Rana requested Faruk to take steps to get the detainees released, she added.
Rana and his brothers became angry at Faruk as he did not take any step to get them released, Nahar said.
Rana's lawyer Abdul Baki Miah mentioned about political disputes between Faruk and former minister Abdul Latif Siddique and Krishak Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddique.
Baki also mentioned about the dispute between Faruk and local people over appointment process at two schools in the char areas, of which, Faruk was president of the managing committees.
Baki asked Nahar whether Faruk was murdered due to these reasons. Nahar told the court that the allegations were false.
Six other accused -- Mohammad Ali, Anisur Rahman Raja, Samir Miah, Nasir Uddin Nuru, Masudur Rahman Masud, and Farid Ahmed -- were also in the dock, Manirul said.
Faruk was killed near his residence on January 18 in 2013.
