MP Liton's bail further extended
A court here yesterday further extended interim bail of Manjurul Islam Liton, ruling party lawmaker from Gaibandha-1 constituency, till February 17 in a case for shooting a schoolboy of Sundarganj upazila in the district.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Muniruzzaman Sikder passed the order when Liton appeared before the court with a petition seeking permanent bail , said court sources.
The lawmaker was in jail for 24 days and released on November 8 last year to allow him to join the parliament session. The court granted him interim bail until the prorogation of the session.
After completion of last parliament session, the lawmaker's lawyer sought permanent bail for him on November 24 in the same court but the court extended interim bail till December 8. Later, his bail was further extended till January 17 this year.
On October 2 last year, the lawmaker shot school student Sourav, for no reason while he was returning home in a car from Sundarganj. Liton went into hiding soon after the incident.
