A woman committed suicide by taking poison after killing her infant son and inuring her only daughter by feeding poison to the children in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh on Wednesday night.
The deceased were Mamata Rani, 35, wife of Joydeb Roy of Sheoratoli village, and their one-and-a-half-month-old son Ratul Chandra.
Luckily the couple's six-year-old daughter Setu Rani survived and is now undergoing treatment at Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
Quoting villagers, Debiganj Police Station OCAminul Islam said Mamata committed suicide apparently due to feuds with her husband.
Mamata bought some milk and bread from a local shop on Wednesday evening and gave poison to her two children, mixing it with the milk, and later also took the same poison.
Family members took them to Debigan Upazila Health Complex where Mamata died around 9:00pm while Ratul died on way to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital the same night.
Police sent the bodies to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital for autopsy, the OC said.
