Mother kills son for playing cricket in sun

A schoolboy was beaten to death allegedly by his mother in Baksiganj upazila of the district on Friday .

The deceased, Isha Sarkar, 13, son of Mashiur Rahman Maznu of Surjanagar Pashchimpara village, was a Class VII student of Surjanagar Government Primary School.

Police arrested Anjum Ara Begum  soon after the incident around 5:00pm, said police.

Isha Sarkar, ignoring his mother's advice not to play cricket in the sun, played with mates all day long.

When he returned to the house in the afternoon, the angry mother, who is also a physical teacher of a local high school, snatched away the cricket bat and hit him on the head, leaving him badly injured, said Officer-in-Charge of Bakshiganj Police Station Aslam Hossain.

Isha was rushed to Bakshiganj upazila health complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead, the OC said.

Anjum was produced before a judicial magistrate's court yesterday that sent her to jail, said court inspector Abdul Kader Mia.
