Man dies in Nilphamari clash

A man was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Binnyakuri village in Dimla upazila yesterday.

Police and locals said sand trader Abdur Rashid, 30, of nearby Jhunagas village was carrying sand through a local road of Binnayakuri causing its damage early in the morning.

Seeing this, local union parishad member Aminur Rahman, 30, forbade the trader to carry sand through the road.

At this, both the groups had an altercation and at one stage, they attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving 11 people from both sides injured.

The injured were rushed to the upazila health complex. Of them, Zahid Ali, 35, was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as his condition worsened. He died there in the afternoon.

Mina Begum, 28, wife of the deceased, filed a murder case, accusing 20 people including the UP member, said Officer-in-Charge (investigation) of Dimla Police Station Mofizuddin.

Police arrested eight accused, including UP member Aminur, said the OC.
