Mahmudur among 9 indicted over Tejgaon arson
A Dhaka court today framed charges against Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman and eight others in an arson case filed with Tejgaon Police Station in March 2013.
After rejecting all the discharge pleas, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Mashud Sheikh indicted all the accused. Trial will begin from February 28 next year.
Mahmudur Rahman, now in jail, and two others on bail pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after the magistrate read out the charges to them.
Meanwhile, the court cancelled bail of former city corporation ward commissioner and BNP leader Anwaruzzaman alias Anwar and five others who were on bail and issued arrest warrant against them.
On December 8, 2013 Mahmudur Rahman was sent to jail after he was produced before a court in connection with two cases filed for provoking violence and assaulting police.
One of the cases was filed on March 17 in connection with provoking hartal and pre-hartal violence and another on March 26 for assaulting police and preventing them from discharging duties.
Later he was shown arrested in 60 other cases and remanded for several times. But Mahmudur was yet to seek bail from any court.
