Lone teacher for 5 classes!

Academic activities at Purbo Narayan Government Primary School in Palashbari upazila of the district are being seriously hampered due to shortage of teachers.

School sources said three posts, including that of the headmaster have been lying vacant for long, much to the sufferings of over 100 students of the institution.

The student of the school have been deprived from proper education as Sumi Akhter, the lone assistant teacher, also acting headmaster of the school, could not cope with her duties and gets only a little opportunity to conduct classes. 

Many guardians said their children spent most of their time either by playing or gossiping during the school hours. As a result, a number of students left the school this year due to lack of proper education.

The headmaster of the school was transferred to another place on May 28 in 2014 and an assistant teacher a few months later. 

Of the remaining two, another assistant teacher went on leave for attending a training course the same year.  

Sumi Akhter said despite informing the authorities concerned the situation still remains the same.

Contacted, Amirul Islam, district primary education officer, said, “We have already deputed a teacher recently and the remaining two will be replaced soon”.
