Khadiza now responding, can open her eyes: Doctors
Sylhet college student Khadiza has been shifted to High Dependency Unit (HDU) from Neuro Intensive Care Unit of Square Hospitals in Dhaka as her condition is improving gradually, doctors said.
“She is now responding and can open her eyes slightly,” Rejaus Sattar, a neurosurgeon of the hospital, told The Daily Star this evening.
Khadiza may not be able to use her left limbs but with physiotherapy she will regain some functionality, the doctor said adding that her right limbs will be “almost fully functional”.
“Within two or three months we will be able to say whether she will be able to move her left limbs.”
“She is breathing effortlessly. We are hopeful about her recovery,” said Sattar.
However, her condition will improve gradually, the doctor added.
She was in a coma when she was admitted to Neuro Intensive Care Unit of the hospital and was put on life support, which was removed recently after her condition improved gradually.
On October 3, Khadiza Begum Nargis, a 23-year-old student of Sylhet Government Women’s College, was hacked multiple times by Badrul Alam, a fourth-year student of economics at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) and also the senior assistant secretary of the Sust unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
