JU students go on strike demanding VC’s removal
Demanding the removal of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor (VC), students today went on an indefinite strike and padlocked all the faculty gates on the campus, creating a deadlock in the university.
Due to the strike, most of the students boycotted their classes and examinations today, our Jahangirnagar University correspondent reports visiting several departments.
Yesterday, the protesters under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’ built a ‘VC Removal Stage’ (Opacharjo Oposharan Mancha) from where they announced the programme.
Susmita Moriom, president of JU Chhatra Front, said they would continue their demonstration until VC Farzana Islam steps down from the post for her involvement in corruption.
The students have been demonstrating on the campus since August 23 demanding removal of the university’s VC Prof Farzana Islam for her alleged involvement in corruption and moral degradation.
On October 2, they also called for a strike on the campus which was later withdrawn for holding a discussion meeting with the VC but no solution came from the meeting which is why the protest continued.
