Indian cattle trader shot dead by BSF
An Indian cattle trader was killed and two others were injured as Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire on a group of cattle traders along Kushkhali border in Sadar upazila of the district early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Bhola Sarder, 30, son of Anisur Sarder of Nawbatkhati village under Sharupnagar Police Station at Bashirhat sub-division.
Sources said some cattle smugglers were bringing Indian cattle to the border when the BSF members of Amudia Camp chased them.
At one stage, the smugglers attacked the BSF members, who opened fire in retaliation, leaving Bhola and two others injured.
Bhola was rushed to local Badartala Hospital in Bashirhat where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday.
Subedar Haider Ali of in Taluigacha Camp in Satkhira under Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) - 38 Battalion, said the incident took place in Indian territory opposite the Kushkhali border.
