Housewife murdered, another commits 'suicide'

A housewife was murdered while another allegedly committed suicide in Panchagrah and Jessore districts yesterday and the day before.

In Panchagarh, a woman was strangled at Sonapatila village in Atwary upazila on Monday night, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

The deceased was identified as Beauty Akhtar, 20, wife of Anwar Hossain of the village.

Police and locals said Anwar Hossain, 22, son of Shafiqul Islam of the area, married Beauty three years ago.

At around 10:00pm on Monday, Anwar and Beauty went to sleep in their room.

Hearing screams, neighbours rushed to the spot at around 11:00pm and found her body lying on the bed.

Being informed, police reached the house, recovered the body and sent it to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The law enforcers later arrested Anwar in connection with the incident, said police.

The victim's father filed a case with Atway Police Station, accusing Anwar of killing her daughter.

Away in Jessore, a housewife took her life following an altercation over family matter at Swarupur village in Chowgachha upazila yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Nasrin Khatun, 20, wife of Babu Hossain of the area, reports our Benapole correspondent.

Family sources said Nasrin committees suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room.

The body was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said police.
