People throng to see glass-made Durga idol
People are thronging a puja mandap to see an idol of Durga at Syarpur in Moulvibazar for its extra ordinary idea.
The idol is made of glass pieces, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
Abahon Puja Parshad has made the arrangement for Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of Hindu communities, starting on Friday.
Three types of coloured glasses including brown, yellow and golden have been used to build the shape of the Durga idol, said Rajib Datta, coordinator of the puja parshad.
The 20-feet-high and 10-feet-wide idol is the first of its kind in Sylhet division, he added.
Sujit Paul, an idol-maker from Rajbari, has crafted the Durga idol.
“I have been crafting idols since my childhood. This glass-made idol is the tallest one I have ever made, he said.
It took two months to craft the idol, he added.
It has cost Tk 5 lakh to make, said Pulokesh Kar Rajon, general secretary of Abahon Puja Parshad.
