Girl raped, youth held

Police on Saturday night arrested a youth on charge of violating a girl after abduction in Baniarchang upazila of Habiganj district on Thursday night.

The 19-year-old victim is now undergoing treatment at Habiganj Sadar Hospital.

Quoting victim's family members, police said Ruku Mia, 26, son of Nabin Mia of Jatukurnapara village, forcibly picked up the girl while she was returning home from a neighbour's house around 9:00pm on Thursday night.

Ruku took the girl to an isolated place, raped her several times and later left the victim at a village field in an unconscious state on Friday.

Being informed by the locals, police rescued the girl around 8:00pm and admitted her to the hospital.

Officer-in-Charge Amulya Kumar Chowdhury of Baniarchong Police Station said victim's father, a farmer of the village, filed a case with the police station accusing Ruku on Saturday noon.

Following the filing of the case, police arrested Ruku from the village the same night, the OC added.
