Friend's fun costs his life

A boy met a tragic death as his friend hurled brick chips at him out of fun while bathing in the Purakhai River in Jaintapur upazila under Sylhet district on Sunday.

The deceased, Abdul Kadir Shahriar, 12, is son of Jahangir Uddin of Sarighat Sarufoud village in the upazila.

Shahriar along with his friend Jamil, 9, son of Tendal Hajir of Tikar village of Goainghat upazila, went to the river for bathing at about 5:00pm, locals said.

At one stage, Jamil hurled brick chips at Shahriar just as a fun, leaving him unconscious.

Seeing Shahriar's body floating on the river, locals informed police who recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Officer-in-charge of Jaintapur Model Police Station, Golok Chandra Basak confirmed the incident.
