Freedom fighter murdered in M’singh
A freedom fighter has been murdered in Mymensingh’s Trishal upazila.
The slit-throat body of Abdul Matin alias Matin Master, 69, who was a ward-level leader of Awami League’s Mothbari union, was found floating in a pond on his farm around 6:30am today.
Md Jakiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station, quoted family to tell our local correspondent that Matin, a retired madrasa teacher, went out last night and never returned.
When he did not attend Fajr prayers at the village mosque, his family and neighbours started a search. They found him floating in a pond of his farm located adjacent to his house.
On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the slaughtered body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) morgue for autopsy.
Police are yet to find out a clue behind the killing. “We are working with different angles to find out the actual clues,” said the OC. He assured the killers will be held soon.
Syed Nurul Islam, Mymensingh Police Superintendent visited the spot, among others.
Ershad Uddin, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Trishal, said they already asked the police to arrest the killers of Matin.
Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, the eldest son of the victim, said that they cannot fathom the cause of the murder but suspects vested quarters might have been involved in the killing.
Hafiz Uddin, a member of Mothbari Union Parishad, said: “We have no words to express how shocked we are after this brutal killing, as the old man had no known enemies and was well-known as a good and religious person”.
