Four get life term for murder in Netrakona

A court here yesterday sentenced four people to life imprisonment for killing a man in Durgapur upazila of the district in 2009.

The lifers are Rahim Uddin, 45, son of Asmat Ali, Sabuj Miah, 40, son of Gias Uddin, Kazimuddin, 35, son of Amjad Ali and Diren Sangma, 48, son of Faresh Rangdi. They hail from Baromari village in the upazila.

The Court fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each, in default they are to suffer two years more in jail.

According to the prosecution, Satyaban Hajong, a resident of Baromari village, was beaten to death by the four as a sequel to previous enmity on April 23, 2009.

Tushil Hajong, father of the deceased, filed a murder case with the police station concerned on April 24, 2009, accusing the four.

Police submitted charge sheet in the case on September 28, 2009. After examining the records and 15 witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdul Hamid pronounced the verdict.
