Feud over land leaves one dead

A youth was killed and seven others were injured in a clash over a land dispute between two groups of villagers in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila on Friday.

The deceased, Mintu, 25, son of Samir Uddin, was a resident of Uttar Bathina village in the upazila.

Quoting deceased's family members, police said one Liakat Ali and his brother Jahangir Alam of the village went to plough their 1.5 decimals of land around 2:00pm.

After a while, one Pabar Uddin Khan of Kaleshwar village and his men equipped with sharp weapons appeared at the scene and asked the siblings to stop the work, claiming the ownership of the land.

At one stage, Pabar and his men attacked the two brothers and beat them mercilessly.

Hearing screams, Liakat's relatives, including Mintu, rushed there to save them but Pabar's men also attacked them with sharp weapons, leaving eight people injured.

Locals took the eight injured to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared Mintu dead.
