Female schoolteacher held on extortion charge
Meherpur police yesterday arrested a schoolteacher on charge of her involvement in extortion of Tk 89,174 from a local trader.
The arrestee is Nawrin Ferdous, assistant teacher of Terail Government Primary School in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district.
Victim Aftab Hossain, owner of Yasin Medicine Corner at Gangni Bazar, alleged that Nawrin introduced herself as a member of a local gang and demanded Tk 2 lakh from him over cellphone several days ago.
“The woman also threatened to kill me if I informed police about the matter. Later, I paid Tk 89,174 through bKash in the mobile number she used,” said Aftab.
Aftab informed Gangni police about the matter when the woman demanded more money and continued threat for the last three days, said Akram Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gangni Police Station.
After tracking her mobile calls, police arrested the woman from the school.
During primary investigation, the arrestee confessed to her involvement in the incident.
The schoolteacher was later produced in a court that sent her to jail, said the OC.
