Father, son punished for selling liquor

A mobile court here yesterday sentenced a man to one month's imprisonment while his son to four moths for selling locally made liquor illegally in Pirgachha upazila of the district.

The convicts are Abdul Jabbar, 50, and his son Dul Mia, 22, of Darjipara village in the upazila.

Aminul Islam, officer in charge of Pirgachha Police Station, said a police team, acting on a tip-off, raided Jabbar's house at noon and seized 10 litres of locally made liquor. The law enforcers also arrested Jabbar and his son.

Police produced the duo before the court. After a hearing, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Aleya Ferdous Jahan punished them.
