A mentally challenged missing youth from Sylhet has got reunited with his family, thanks to the Facebook posting by a benevolent man in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat.

Shipon Ahmed, 21, son of Mohammad Ali, a farm labourer of Noyagaon village under Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj, went missing while accompanying his father in Sylhet in 2014, said the father after getting back Shipon on Friday.

"I saw Shipon in the area in last April. He would ask for food from people and sleep on streets. Finding him sick two weeks ago, I arranged his treatment and shelter. He couldn't speak properly," said Md Shahin, a poultry feed trader of Station Road area in Akkelpur.

"I uploaded Shipon's photo on Facebook on October 23," he said.

Three days later, Amit Dev of Jagannathpur village in Sunamganj identified the missing youth in the social media, phoned Rabiul Islam, Akkelpur correspondent of the daily Prothom Alo, and requested him to look into the matter.

"Informed by the journalist, Mohammad Ali came to Akkelpur on Friday and received his son. Shipon recognised his father," said Shahin.

The father and the son left Akkelpur for home on Friday night.
