‘6.50 lakh metric tonnes salt in stock now’
Calling upon all not to be confused over salt price rumour, the government today said there is no shortage of salt in the country right now.
The stock of salt was 6.50 lakh metric tonnes till November 15 of the current year, Bangladesh Small & Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) said amid rumour over the salt price hike.
The country saw record salt production of 18.24 lakh metric tonnes in 2018-2019 fiscal year which was much higher than the target, BSCIC said in a press release.
"There's no shortage of salt. At present, the salt stock is much higher than the demand," said Md Mostaque Hassan, chairman of Bangladesh Small & Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC).
An unscrupulous group is attempting to gain benefits by spreading misleading information online, he said.
The government has attained self-sufficiency in salt production with hard work of the salt farmers, he also said.
The chairman asked the officials of the district offices to inform all deputy commissioners across the country about the rumour.
A control room has been opened at the BSCIC headquarters in Dhaka and the people have been asked to communicate with No: 02-9573505 for salt-related information.
