Diarrhoea hits Joypurhat for hot weather
Hospitals and private clinics in Joypurhat see a rise in the number of patients with diarrhoea and respiratory problems over the last seven days due to the excessive heat in the district.
Children and elderly people are the worst sufferers for such a weather.
Joypurhat Modern Hospital Superintendent Dr FM Musa Ali Mansur said around 250 patients, mostly children, had been admitted to the hospital last week after they fell sick with diarrhoea.
Around 45 patients get admitted to the hospital daily, he said.
The eight-bed diarrhoea ward is flooded with the surge of patients. Most of them are lying on the floor for lack of bed. “It would be good if I could get a bed, but there is no scope for that,” said Abdus Salam, a patient from Joypurhat town.
The number of patients with respiratory problems and fever is also on the rise at the hospital.
Two-year-old Sanjida was admitted to the hospital after she fell sick with diarrhoea five days ago. Three-year-old Sadia of Matapur village in Akkelpur upazila has also been admitted to the hospital with the same problem.
Hospital superintendent said the flow of patients suffering from diarrhoea, fever and respiratory infections has increased in the district due to the unusual heat.
Such problems can be averted if people are aware of what to do during such hot weather, he said.
