Death toll rises to 5 in Rangamati

The death toll in the building collapse in Rangamati on Tuesday rose to five as the body of a boy was recovered from the lake yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Zahidul Islam, 45, his daughter Pinky, 13, honours student of Rangamati Government College Umme Habiba, 22, Shahidul, 10, and Saidul, 4, said Dr Liton Kumar Palit of Rangamati Sadar Hospital.

A three-member committee led by Md Moazzem Husain, additional deputy magistrate of Rangamati, was formed to investigate the incident. The other members are Executive Engineer, Rangamati Municipality Dilip Kumar Biswas, and Executive Engineer, Public Works Department Om Prakash Nandi. The committee will have to submit the report within 15 working days.
