Criminals cut down bottle gourd, bean plants
Unknown criminals cut down thousands of bottle gourd and bean plants at a farm in Muktagachha upazila of the district early Friday.
The plants were cultivated on some 44 decimals of land of Bhai Bhai Nursery and Agro-farm at Dowhakhola, causing a loss of over Tk four lakh, sources said.
The miscreants also uprooted thousands of saplings of cabbage and cauliflower, police said.
Quoting Kabir Alam, the owner of the farm, Abu Mohammad Fazlul Karim, officer-in-charge of Muktagachha Police Station, said Alam had been running his nursery business and agro-farm for long in the area.
When Kabir went to his farm on Friday morning, he found thousands of bottle gourd and bean plants cut down, and thousands of cauliflower and cabbage plants uprooted.
Kabir told police that he established the farm on eight acres of land some 20 years ago and has been growing different kinds of vegetables and crops. He demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
On information, police visited the spot yesterday.
Kabir filed a general diary with Muktagachha Police Station on Saturday night. None was arrested till filing of this report as of 5:00pm yesterday.
“We are investigating the incident. It might have been due to previous enmity,” said the OC.
