Cricketer Sunny indicted in ICT case, trial begins Nov 21

A Dhaka court today framed charges against suspended cricketer Arafat Sunny in a case filed by a woman claiming to be his wife, under the Information and Communication Technology Act.

Sunny, now on bail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Judge Saiful Islam of the Cyber Tribunal read out the charge to him.

The tribunal fixed November 21 for starting trial of the case.

Mohammadpur Police on April 6 pressed charges against Sunny in the case filed against him under the ICT Act.

According to the case statement, Sunny opened a fake Facebook account on June 12 last year and sent an indecent photo of the 23-year-old woman, Nasrin Sultana, through Facebook.

He reportedly did the same on November 25, 2016. Nasrin claimed she had been in a relationship with Sunny for seven years and they got married on December 4, 2014.

Sunny was arrested from his Aminbazar residence on January 23 after the case was filed on January 5. He was later dropped from the national cricket team.

Two more cases -- one for dowry case and other for torturing his wife -- are now pending with two other courts.
