200 families under isolation in N’ganj after one dies of coronavirus
Local administration has locked down Ambagan area in Narayanganj Sadar upazila after a 55-year-old resident died of coronavirus in the area yesterday morning.
The patient died at Kurmitola General Hospital around 9:00am yesterday and was buried at Dhaka's Khilgaon Taltola graveyard under the supervision of IEDCR, said Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nahida Barik.
Although he died around 9:00am yesterday, Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) informed the local administration about the death around 1:00am today and asked to take measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the UNO said.
The authorities locked down Ambagan area, isolating around 200 families living there, she said.
The deceased did not come in contact with any foreigners and no one from his family has returned from abroad. He stayed home and used to go to mosque for prayers, the UNO said.
Samples of the deceased's relatives and neighbours will be collected today for coronavirus test, she added.
Quoting his son, Dr Zayedul Islam, a health official of Sadar upazila, said the deceased went to Narayanganj General Hospital on Thursday with fever, cough and breathing problems but the doctors suggested to take him to Dhaka.
He was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital in critical condition on Friday where he died next morning. Later, IEDCR confirmed that he died of coronavirus.
