Burdwan blast: Wanted ‘JMB militant’ held in India

Indian police have claimed arrest of a wanted militant of the Jama’tul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in connection to the Burdwan blast case.

Tariqul Islam alias Sadiq alias Sumon, stated to be a Bangladeshi national who had Rs 5 lakh bounty on him, was arrested from Jharkhand last evening.

A joint team of Jharkhand’s anti-terrorist squad and National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested him from Ramgarh district, our New Delhi correspondent reports.

Jharkhand police spokesperson SN Pradhan confirmed the arrest today and added that the detainee is likely to be produced at court later in the day.

Islam was said to be staying in Barharwa in Shahebganj district – located in the junction of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bangladesh.

The October 2, 2014 incident left two people – a mastermind of JMB’s bomb-making module and his associate – dead during an “accidental explosion” in Burdwan.

India’s NIA has filed charges against 21 people, including four Bangladeshi nationals, in the blast case that is currently underway in West Bengal.
