Boy gets new school building after writing to PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to construct a school building in Betagi upazila of Barguna after receiving a letter from one of its students.
Md Mainul Islam Amit, a student of class V of Jalisha Hat Government Primary School in the upazila, gave a letter requesting steps to construct his school building while receiving prize from the PM in Dhaka’s Osmani Smriti Auditorium on January 29.
After receiving the letter, the premier directed the secretary of Primary and Mass Education Ministry to take immediate steps to construct the two-storey school building-cum-cyclone shelter for the school instantly.
Following the instruction, the secretary yesterday sent a letter to the director general (DG) of primary education directorate to take immediate steps in this regard, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting Abdus Salam, primary education officer of Betagi upazila.
Mainul, the first boy in his class, received the prize during a programme marking the inauguration of ‘Education Week- 2017’ for placing third at the national level competition on ‘impromptu speech’ this year.
In the letter, he wrote about the bad condition of his school building, said Salam.
Mainul took part in the competition when he was a student of class IV and stood first in Betagi upazila of Barguna district under Barisal division. He was selected to compete at the national level where he placed third, said Md Monirul Islam, headmaster of the school.
The tin-shed school building was built around 25 years ago, he added.
We are very proud as the PM responded to Mainul’s letter, said his mother Nurun Nahar, also an assistant teacher of the school.
In the letter Amit wrote, “My school is situated outside the flood control dam on Bererdon river and during high tide the school building gets flooded. As a result our educational and extracurricular activities are greatly hampered.”
“We pray to you to take immediate steps to build a two-storey school-cum-cyclone shelter to ensure better atmosphere of education in the school,” he also wrote in the letter, the headmaster confirmed.
Executive engineer for LGED from Barguna visited the school yesterday and sent a report in this regard to the higher authority on constructing the new school building, he added.
