Bangladesh role model in combating militancy: IGP
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque today claimed that Bangladesh is now recognised as a “role model” in combating militancy in the world.
“Bangladesh Police have a great contribution in combating militancy and police so far conducted 23 successful anti-militancy operations since the Gulshan Holey Artisan Attack, which has been highly-acclaimed at home and abroad,” said the police chief.
According to database, 69 militants were killed in the anti-militancy operation conducted across the country. The latest operation “August Bite” was conducted in the capital’s Panthapath on August 15 and a militant named Saiful Islam was killed in the operation.
The militant reportedly planned to carry out an attack on those heading towards Dhanmondi Road No 32 to pay homage to Bangabandhu on National Mourning Day.
On July 1, counter terrorism and transnational crime unit (CTTC) conducted another operation “Tepid Punch” in Kushtia, from where three women including the wife of present “Neo JMB” chief Ayub Bachchu were arrested.
IGP handed over crest and financial incentive to CTTC chief Monirul Islam and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia for conducting those two operations successfully.
While addressing a meeting in Police Headquarter remarking these operations, IGP said CTTC must uphold the success in upcoming days, which they gained in combating militancy. “We are giving focus in intelligence-led policing that brings success in combating militancy.”
Md Moniruzzaman, assistant inspector general (intelligence and special affairs) of Police Headquarters, present a summary of anti-militancy operation in the meeting.
