HC moved to include mother’s name for identity
The High Court today issued a rule seeking why the names of mothers should not be included along with fathers for identity purpose in all documents.
It has directed the authorities concerned of the government to respond to the rule within four weeks.
The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil issued the rule in response to a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Zubaida Parveen.
She recently submitted the writ petition saying that the government has mandated the use of mother’s names along with that of the father in forms and documents.
But the provision is not complied with in different documents, particularly the judicial papers, she said in the writ petition.
The petitioner also prayed to the High Court to pass an order on the government authorities to take steps so that the gazette notification of 2000 is properly followed.
