Dhaka proposes Myanmar for joint drive against militants

Bangladesh government today proposed Myanmar to conduct a joint operation against militant outfits including Arakan Army responsible for creating trouble on bordering area.
The proposal was given when Aung Myint, Charge’d Affairs of Myanmar Embassy in Dhaka, met Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, director general (Asia & Pacific) of the foreign ministry, at the latter’s office responding to a summon this noon.
Dhaka also strongly protested Myanmar for implicating the term Bengali in its ongoing internal clashes, the ministry source said.
In a statement on August 25, Myanmar army said that "extremist Bengali insurgents attacked a police station in Maungdaw region in northern Rakhine state with a handmade bomb explosive and held coordinated attacks on several police posts at 01:00".
Dhaka told that the attack on Myanmar police forces is its internal issue. But the use of the term Bengali in this connection is condemnable, the source said.
Dhaka also told Myanmar that if the neighbouring country thinks there are terrorists and militants outfits in the bordering areas, then Dhaka will extend its all out supports to detain them, Dhaka told the envoy, according to the source.
Earlier on Saturday, Bangladesh government summoned Myanmar envoy in Dhaka and expressed “serious concern” over the recent happenings, including the fresh influx of Rohingyas into Bangladesh.
