Bangladesh elected vice president of 71st UNGA session

The United Nations General Assembly elected Bangladesh as Vice President of its upcoming 71st session, foreign ministry sources said.

The general assembly session will begin in September. Peter Thomson, Permanent Representative of Fiji, has been elected president of the session.

The election was held yesterday and Bangladesh was elected unanimously, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.

Made up of all the 193 Member States of the UN, the General Assembly provides a forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the UN Charter. It meets in regular session intensively from September to December each year, and thereafter as required.
