Ban on fishing in Kaptai ends today
Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) has lifted the ban on fishing in Kaptai Lake, starting from midnight today.
The district administration had banned fishing from May 1.
A letter issued by BFDC last week instructed the district officials of BFDC and local administration to allow fishing in the lake.
Every year, a ban is imposed from May to July for breeding and boosting fish production in the lake. During the period, mother fish lay eggs while fish fry are released into the lake, BFDC officials said.
Around 21,000 fishermen of Rangamati and Khagrachhari depend on catching fish in the lake.
