AL leader shot dead in Jamalpur

A local Awami League (AL) leader was shot dead and another was injured by unidentified criminals at Rajarhat village under Doail union in Sarishabari upazila of the district on Friday night.

The deceased, Abdul Hanif, 50, son of Efaj Uddin of Haatbari village under the union, was president of ward No 2 unit under the union.

Police, quoting locals, said Hanif  and one Muzaffar Hossain, 45, of the same village, were taking tea at a tea stall in the area at around 7:30pm.

A gang of masked criminals riding two motorbikes reached the area and opened fire targeting Hanif. Hanif was shot on the head and died instantly, while Muzzafar received bullet wound in the leg, said Billal Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sarishabari Police Station.

Muzzafar was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

“We are trying to unearth clue to the attack and arrest the culprits involved,” the OC added. A murder case was filed with the police station against 4/5 unnamed people.
