80 sacks of VGF rice sold on black market seized in Jamalpur
Law enforcers seized 80 sacks of rice meant for Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme in Goalerchar union of Islampur upazila on Sunday night.
Four people, including Enamul Haque, chairman of the union parishad, were sued, DB police said.
Quoting locals, police said the chairman sold 80 sacks of VGF rice to rice trader Fulu Miah, 35, of Sirajabad village in Polobandha union, and to Nawab Ali, 28, and Farhad Miah, 30, of Malmara village in Goalerchar union of the upazila.
On information, a DB team, led by sub-inspectors Sadrul and Nazrul, conducted a drive and seized 30 sacks of VGF rice from a buffalo cart at Sabharchar village. The rice was going to Fulu's house at Sirajabad village in Polobandha union.
The detectives seized the rest 50 sacks from the houses of Nawab and Farhad at Malmara village at around 7:30pm, said Deen-e-Alam, officer-in-charge of Islampur Police station.
The four, including the UP chairman, went into hiding, said Abdul Karim, officer-in-charge of DB.
