51 shops, houses gutted in four districts
At least 47 shops and four houses were gutted in fire incidents in Bhola, Kishoreganj, Bandarban and Bagerhat districts yesterday and the day before.
In Bhola, a fire gutted at least 15 shops at Battola Bazar in Charfashion upazila on Tuesday, reports our correspondent.
Police and locals said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shoe store at 11:45pm and soon engulfed the adjoining shops.
On information, two fire fighting units from Charfashion and Lalmohan upazilas rushed to the spot and doused the flames after an hour of frantic effort.
The loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk two crore, said Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Charfashion Police Station.
Away in Kishoreganj, at least 15 shops were gutted as a fire broke out at Kachari Bazar in Sadar upazila early Tuesday, reports UNB.
OC Mosharraf Hossain of Kishoreganj Model Police Station said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop at around 5:00am and soon engulfed the adjoining business establishments.
On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after two hours of frantic effort.
The extent of loss caused by the fire was estimated at Tk 50 lakh, said AFM Fakhrul Hossain, general secretary of Kachari Bazar Byabasayee Samity.
According to our Bandarban correspondent, at least four houses and three shops were gutted in a fire in Hafezghona area under Sadar upazila yesterday.
The fire originated from a lamp at a house of one Rashed of the area in the morning and soon engulfed the adjacent houses and shops, said fire officials.
On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the flames with the help of locals.
The affected house and shop owners claimed that the loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 20 lakh.
In Bagerhat, at least 14 shops were gutted in a fire at a bazar in Morrelganj upazila of the district early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Four people also sustained injuries when they tried to douse the fire, said locals.

On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the flames with the help of locals.
The damage caused by the fire could go up to Tk 75 lakh, said Ariful Haque, an official of Morrelganj Fire Service Station.
