50 injured in Sunamganj clash
More than 50 people were injured in a clash between of two groups of villagers at Derai upazila in Sunamganj yesterday.
Locals said Sahed Mia of Rafinagar village locked in an altercation with Ali Akbar of the same village over supremacy in the area, triggering the clash around 7:00am.
The clash began, in a sequel to the altercation, at Rafinagar, leaving at least 50 injured. Of the injured, 10 were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital, 15 to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital and 10 to Derai Health Complex while others were given first aid.
The agitated villagers vandalised about 30 shops of a local bazar during the two-hour clash.
Vehicular movement on the local road was also disrupted for one hour, creating a long tailback.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge (OC) of Derai Police Station.
Additional police were deployed to fend off further incident, the OC added.
