5 killed by lightning while working on field in Kushtia

Five people including a boy were killed when a lightning struck them on a field in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia this afternoon.

Four of the deceased are: Mossarraf Hossain, 55, of Boyari village; Abul Kashem, 43, and Shaheen, 42; of Adgram village; and Abdus Sattar, 40, of Kushabaria village of the upazila.

The identity of the boy aged between 10 to 11 years could not be known immediately, our local correspondent reports quoting Raqibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station.

A thunderbolt struck them when they were working on a field in Boyari village around 1:30pm leaving them dead on the spot, the OC said.
