5 held with arms, ammo
Five arms peddlers were held in Chapainawabganj and Tangail districts yesterday and the day before.
Police in separate drives arrested four youths with arms and bullets in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj in the last two days, reports our correspondent.
The arrestees are Shamim Reza, 27, son of Tarikul Islam, Shahid Hasan Rubel, 19, son of Nefaur Rahman, Abdullah Kafi, 21, son of Gazlur Rahman of Telkupi village, and Mahbub Alam, 29, son of Emran Alam of Tarapur village.
At around 11:30am yesterday, a police team, acting on a tip-off, raided Dadon Chak area in the upazila town and arrested Shamim, Rubel and Abdullah Kafi.
They also seized a pistol, 45 bullets and two magazines from their possession, said Moinul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station.
In another drive, the law enforcers arrested Mahbub with a pistol, five bullets and two magazines at Tarapur Bazar in the upazila at around 8:30pm on Friday, said the OC.
In Tangail, the law enforcers arrested a young man with three foreign made pistols and 31 bullets in District Gate area of the town on Friday.
Arrestee Nakul Datta, 32, son of Nolin Datta of Aloa Bhabani area in the town, was earlier sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case.
He was released on bail from the High Court six months ago, said Additional Superintendent of Police Pankaj Chandra Roy.
