42 arrested while going to India illegally
Police and members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested 42 people while they were going to India through Jessore and Benapole borders without valid documents on Tuesday.
In Benapole, BGB personnel arrested 12 people while they were illegally going to India through Putkhali border in the morning.
Putkhali BGB camp sources said a team of BGB, acting on a tip-off, raided the area at around 10:00pm and arrested five women and seven men.
Sensing the presence of BGB men, the human traffickers fled the scene. The arrestees hail from different areas of Gopalganj district. BGB later handed them over to Benapole Port Police Station.
In Jessore, police arrested 30 people from Noapara border in Abhoynagar upazila the same day.
Nasiruddin, officer-in-charge of Abhoynagor Police Station, said a police team, acting on secret information, conducted a drive in the area and arrested 15 men, 11 women and four children as they were entering the Indian territory without passports.
The arrestees told police that they were going to India in search of jobs.
