200 houses removed from risky hill slopes
The district administration has removed nearly 200 risky houses from slopes of hills in different areas of the district in last two days.
Nearly one lakh people are staying at 96 shelter centres in the district as the flood situation in the district is still serious, district administration sources said.
“A team conducted drive at Lighthouse Para of the town today [Wednesday] and removed 30 illegal houses from there,” said Anupam Saha, acting deputy commissioner of Cox's Bazar.
Five people died in landslides while seven others drowned in flood water amid heavy downpour during the last four days.
The district administration has continued announcement through loudspeakers, asking people to move away from their risky houses on the slope of the hills.
Despite recession of water, road communication is yet to be restored as roads in Cox's Bazar Sadar, Chakoria, Pekua and Ramu upazilas have been badly damaged.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in adjacent Bandarban district has improved.
