2 'robbers' killed in 'gunfight' with Bogra cops

Two alleged robbers were killed in what police claimed to be a gunfight at Kahalu upazila of Bogra early today.
The deceased were identified as Dulal Hossain, 45, of Dupchanchia and Ibrahim Ali, 46, of Nandigram in the district, our Bogra correspondent reports quoting Nur-e-Alam Siddiki, officer-in-charge of Kahalu Police Station.
Acting on a tip-off that the gang was preparing to commit robbery, police conducted a drive around 2:00am, he said.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on the policemen. Police retaliated with gunfire, triggering a gunfight.
Ibrahim and Dulal were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while other members of the gang managed to flee.
Two policemen, Assistant Sub-inspector Feroj Ahmed, 29, and Constable Abdul Bari, 38, -- were also injured in the incident, said the police official.
The bodies were sent to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue.
They also recovered one foreign pistol, one magazine, some sharp weapons and five bullets from the spot.
