2 rescued 10 days into abduction in Dinajpur
Two people, abducted for ransom at Uthrail village in Dinajpur Sadar upazila on July 2, were rescued from the same village yesterday.
They are Sadek Ali and Alauddin Mia. Both are from Mulgram village in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district.
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested four abductors from the village. The arrestees are Shamsul Haque, Saifur Rahman, Nur Islam and Shahidul Islam, said ASP Dolan Mia of Rab-13.
Quoting the victims' family members, Rab officials said Sadek and Alauddin came to Uthrail village to attend a wedding ceremony on July 2 and remained missing since then.
On the following day, abductor Shamsul Alam phoned Sadek's wife Shahana Begum, demanding Tk 10 lakh as ransom for release of her husband.
Shahana later lodged a complaint with Joypurhat Rab. Members of the elite force, tracking the phone numbers of the abductors, raided Alam's house at the village in the morning and rescued the duo. The also arrested the four from there.
An abduction case was filed with Sadar Police Station against the four, said Khalequzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
