2 murder accused killed in Chuadanga ‘gunfight’
Two accused in a case filed for killing a schoolboy were killed in a “gunfight” with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga early today.
Deceased Sabuj Hossain, 23, was son of late Hamid Hossain of C&B area and Shakil Hossain, 21, was son of Abdul Kader Mondol of Darshana area of the district town.
Both were accused in a murder case filed for killing school student Mahfuz Alam Sajib, reports our Kushtia correspondent.
On information that a group of criminals were holding a meeting, a team of the Rab members launched a drive at Shantipara Bypass area around 2:45am, said Maj Monir Ahmmed, deputy director of Jhenidah Rab-6 camp.
Sensing presence of the Rab members, the criminals opened fire at the Rab men, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered the “gunfight”, Maj Monir added.
The “gunfight” had ended when alleged criminals fled the scene after one hour.
Later Rab men found bodies of Sabuj and Shakil, he said.
Rab recovered one shooter gun, one revolver, two sharp weapons and four bullets from the spot.
Earlier on September 16, another accused -- Rakibul Islam, an elected member of Alukdia union parishad of Chuadana Sadar upazila was killed in another “gunfight” with Rab at Gobindopur village of Damurhuda upazila.
School student Sajib, 15, son of Habibur Rahman of Dashami village in Damurhuda, was murdered two days after he was abducted on July 29 this year.
His body was recovered from inside a septic tank of a house rented by accused Rakibul in C&B area of the upazila on August 30, Major Munir said.
Family of the victim filed the murder case with Damurhuda Police Station accusing six people on September 1.
