2 JMB men surrender in Bogra
Two members of banned militant group Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) including a close friend of Dhaka attacker Khairul Islam Payel surrendered to Rapid Action Battalion members in Bogra today.
They are: Abdul Hakim, 22, a friend of Payel, of Shahjahanpur upazila and Mahmudul Hasan, 17, of Saghata upazila in Bogra.
They surrendered at a programme in presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and Rab’s director general Benazir Ahmed.
Rab organised the programme in Bogra town for giving a chance to the militants to surrender.
While talking at the programme, Abdul Hakim said that he had chosen a dark path when there was no aim in life and he had no wish to live.
He passed Alim (equivalent to HSC) with Dhaka attacker Payel from Bihigram Fazil Madrasa in Shahjahanpur upazila of Bogra in 2015.
On July 1, attackers killed 20 hostages -- nine Italian, seven Japanese, two Bangladeshis, one Indian and one Bangladesh-born US citizen -- and two police officers in Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan of Dhaka.
